Last year, eight members of the Yonkers 150 Clan street gang were arrested following the investigation, which was run by the Yonkers Police Department and investigators from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office Gang, Firearms and Narcotics Bureau.
On Friday, May 31, Richard Basket - also known as “Man” or “Face” pleaded guilty to attempted murder, conspiracy and criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Westchester County Jail pending his sentencing on Sept. 26.
According to police, 150 Clan gang members allegedly operated around the Nodine Hill area and were involved in acts of violence that included multiple shooting and assault incidents.
Investigators surveyed several incidents that were found to be connected to the group of individuals arrested. Police said that investigators conducted multiple interviews and were able to develop information to target the 150 Clan gang, leading to the indictment of eight people.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said that “the violence included shootings, assaults and possession of weapons. During the course of this conspiracy, the defendants worked together to attempt to murder and assault rival gang members and take control of the area through acts of intimidation and violence and to distribute narcotics.”
The investigation into the conspiracy and violent acts resulted in the recovery of a loaded .45 caliber pistol, which Basket - one of the leaders of the gang - had secreted in a storage facility in Yonkers.
“Gangs and illegal guns have no place in our communities, and these on-going investigations and arrests are a testament to the Yonkers Police Department’s resolve to keep Yonkers one of the safest cities in America,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said in a statement at the time of the arrests.
“These arrests are the result of the continued efforts of the Yonkers Police Gang Unit, working in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office Investigations Division,” Scarpino stated at the time of the indictment. “Their intense and ongoing investigations into violent gangs in the City of Yonkers are making our communities safer by getting drugs and guns off our streets.”
